Standard tile values

Each letter has a fixed value in English Scrabble. 1 point: A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T, U. 2 points: D, G. 3 points: B, C, M, P. 4 points: F, H, V, W, Y. 5 points: K. 8 points: J, X. 10 points: Q, Z. Blank tiles score zero. This finder adds those values for every word; premium squares are not counted.

Finding better plays

High-value letters on a double or triple letter square usually beat a longer low-value word. Check the top of the sorted list first, then look for words that use awkward letters such as J, Q, X or Z. If you hold two vowels too many, play a word that uses them.

Bingos and longer words

Playing all seven tiles in one turn is a bingo and earns a 50-point bonus in standard rules. For longer plays see the 7-letter words and 8-letter words pages.

Questions

Does the score include bonus squares?

No. Scores show tile values only. Add premium squares yourself when you place the word.

Are these words valid in tournaments?

The list is a general dictionary list, so check the official Scrabble dictionary for your event.

How do blanks work?

Type ? for each blank tile. A blank can stand for any letter, so more words will match.
