Wordle Solver

Type the guesses you have already made, set each tile's color, and this Wordle solver shows the 5-letter words that can still be the answer. Every row you add trims the list further.

How to use the solver

Enter your first guess in the top row, one letter per tile. Tap the small dot on each tile until its color matches the game: gray for a letter that is not used, yellow for the right letter in the wrong spot, green for the right letter in the right spot. Press Show possible answers and the list below updates. Add each new guess in the next row and solve again.

How colors and duplicate letters are handled

A letter can appear twice in a guess while the answer holds it once. In that case one copy turns yellow or green and the extra copy turns gray. The solver understands this: a gray copy means there are no more of that letter than the colored ones, so it keeps the right number of copies instead of wrongly removing the letter.

Strategy after your first guess

Early on, prefer a candidate that uses letters you have not tested yet, so the next result removes as many words as possible. Once only a handful remain, pick the one that best splits the rest. For good opening guesses see the best Wordle starting words.

Questions

Does the solver know today's answer?

No. It never uses the daily solution. It only filters words by the feedback you enter, so it will not spoil the puzzle.

Why is a letter gray but still in the word?

When a guess repeats a letter, the extra copy can turn gray even though one copy is in the word. The solver keeps the right number of copies.

Which word should I pick from the list?

Choose a word with untested letters early on, and the most likely common word when only a few remain.
